The Cause

Ride for Merit has been conceived in cooperation with Meret USA and Meret Thailand, with support from Krabi International School, to highlight the remarkable efforts of Thailand’s rescue foundations. Through this journey, we will sponsor critical rescue equipment and provide links for you to donate directly to these foundations.

Our goal is to empower these volunteer-based teams, helping them continue their life-saving work and ensuring they have the tools they need to keep communities safe.

The Route

The Ride for Merit journey begins with a train ride from Bangkok to Phitsanulok, after which the epic 3,000 km cycling adventure across Thailand will last for over six weeks. Starting in Sukhothai, the route travels through Tak, Mae Sot, Mae Hong Son, Pai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, and Uttaradit, then heading northeast following the path of the mighty Mekhong River through Nongkhai, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, and Buriram, ending in Aranyaprathet. Throughout this journey, the route will climb over 27,000 meters of elevation, traversing Thailand’s most mountainous regions, receiving deliveries of rescue equipment, and sharing experiences on social media while meeting the inspiring volunteers dedicated to rescue work. Every mile and ascent will support and bring visibility to the extraordinary efforts of these volunteer rescue teams.

The Cyclists

Mike, a resident of Thailand for nearly 15 years, has a deep connection to the country. After studying Thai at university, he dedicated his career to education and community impact, now serving as the headteacher of Krabi International School. Through his work, Mike has developed a strong partnership with Meret Thailand, a leading supplier of rescue equipment, and is uniquely positioned to use their sponsorship to raise awareness for Thailand’s volunteer rescue foundations.

Joining Mike for parts of this journey is his lifelong friend Jo, whose friendship of more than 20 years has been a source of motivation and encouragement. Together, they share a love of adventure and a commitment to making a difference.
